Sharma, who is representing three of the five individuals charged in the attack, said Wednesday that his clients would plead not guilty to all charges in the case. Two other men have been charged in the attack, and a third was implicated but will be tried separately because he is a minor. The lawyer's comments, which echoed those by some conservative religious and political figures, were likely to meet with more outrage from India s urban middle class, which has spearheaded fierce protests against the government and police for their perceived failure to protect women from violence. But they reflected a traditional chauvinism that is still held by many in the populous country."Guilt is not one-sided," Indian spiritual leader Asaram Bapu, told followers earlier in the week, adding that if the woman had pleaded with her six attackers in God's name, and told them she was of the "weaker sex," they would have relented, Reuters reported.Mohan Bhagwat, a conservative pro-Hindu politician, weighed in with his view that rape occurs only in Indian cities, b {keyword} ecause women there adopt western lifestyles, but not in rural India. But that view is contradicted by data, Reuters reported, citing the National Commis {keyword} sion {keyword} |

INDIANAPOLIS -- Paul George scored seven points in a 13-0 fourth-quarter run and finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds Thursday night to lead the Indiana Pacers to an 81-76 victory over the New York Knicks, who were without the suspended Carmelo Anthony. The Pacers (22-14) have won 12 of 15 and have swept the other two Eastern Conference division leaders -- Miami and the Knicks -- this week.New York (23-12) was led by J.R. Smith with 25 points and Tyson Chandler had 12 points and 15 rebounds, but they clearly missed Anthony's presence. The NBA's second-leading scorer was banned by the league for Monday's postgame confrontation with Boston's Kevin Garnett.Without Anthony, one of the league's highest-scoring and best shooting teams, hardly resembled itself. New York finished with a season-low point total, nine fewer than its previous low, and shot just 34.8% from the field and 20% from three-point range. But Smith kept the Knicks close for three quarters. After falling behind 49-38 early in the third quarter, Smith scored eight points during a 13-3 run that got the Knicks to 52-51. And he closed the quarter by scoring the last four points to give the Knicks a 60-58 lead. That's when George poured it on.

tuberippinReally easy to make a point when you leave out ALL the good trades he has made. Also, Leon Landry, who Seattle got in the League trade is an OF prospect with borderline regular to 4th OF potential, which is valuable ..hardly garbage. Maikel Cleto for Brendan Ryan? ireportyoudecide mentions Cliff Lee trade as bad .well, Jack turned one of those pieces (Lueke) into John Jaso and the jury is still out on Smoak. I ll concede he is a bust if he sucks again this season but look to other very good career first basemen to their age 25 seasons and that tends to be a breakout year after a few seasons of struggle. Also how did Jack get Cliff Lee in the first place? 3 prospects who he did not draft, who haven t done much of anything .except get arrested for Cocaine use or sit in the minors for 3 seasons FOR FREAKING CLIFF LEE!!!!!!!. How about JJ Putz who suffered through a couple of seasons of injuries before FINALLY becoming effective again last season and Luis Valbuena for Mike Carp, Maikel Cleto (now Ryan) Jason Vargas and Franklin Gutierrez? Then trading Vargas for Kendrys Morales? Yes ..Zduriencik has made a few errors. I will forever rue the Morrow for League trade, and while the Fister for Youth trade looks bad now, it certainly made baseball sense when it went down. Wells still provides some value and Furbush has been solid. And really .Washburn? You bring that up as a bad trade? What did he do after going to Detroit? Seattle got more value from the guys they got back than Detroit did from Washburn ..who flamed out the rest of that season and then didn t play again.

Ryan was let go after the Cowboys missed the postseason for a third consecutive year. His firing ends a two-year tenure with the team.
Under Ryan's tutelage, the Cowboys ranked among the league's top 20 total defenses, placing 14th in 2011 but slipping to 19th in 2012, perhaps in large part as a result of injuries to many of Dallas' key defensive players.
Ryan becomes the second casualty of the Cowboys' coaching staff. Running backs coach Skip Peete was fired on Monday. |
